We look forward to your submissions of short fiction, poetry, flash fiction and creative non-fiction for The Ocotillo Review. Submissions for the Summer 2021 issue (Volume 5.2) open on January 15, 2021 and close at midnight March 31, 2021. All work should be previously unpublished. Publication on your blog or social media is considered publication. We accept simultaneous submissions on the agreement that you will withdraw the submission if it is accepted elsewhere.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Upon acceptance Kallisto Gaia Press retains First North American serial rights, print & digital, and the non-exclusive digital rights to publish on our website in perpetuity. All other rights revert to the author upon publication. If the work is reprinted we request that The Ocotillo Review or the Texas Poetry Calendar is credited as the original publisher. Please submit your work in 12pt. Times New Roman font, Double spaced (except poetry). We prefer Word doc.
SHORT FICTION should be one story totaling 1000-4200 words not counting the title. Novel excerpts are allowed providing they can stand alone without extraneous notation. Accepted work pays $60 USD
FLASH FICTION should be 1000 words or less not counting titles. Include up to 3 pieces per entry in one document. Start each piece on a new page. Accepted work pays $30 USD
POETRY (The Ocotillo Review) – Include up to 5 poems in one document. Lines should be single spaced with double-spacing between stanzas. Start each poem on a new page. Limit each poem to 60 lines. The entire submission should not exceed 10 pages. Accepted work pays $30 USD
POETRY (The Texas Poetry Calendar) – Include up to 3 poems in one document. Lines should be single spaced with double-spacing between stanzas. Start each poem on a new page. Limit each poem to 35 lines, including title and spacing. Accepted work pays $25 USD
CREATIVE or NARRATIVE NON-FICTION should total 800 – 4200 words not counting the title. Personal essays and biographies are acceptable as are Op-Ed and investigative journalism . We are not accepting unsolicited reviews of literary or other artistic works at this time. Accepted work pays $60 USD
